IceBox parts

It's important to have a good idea in your head about the parts of the IceBox for this; check the IceBox image page to get a description.

This is really a "quick" overview of how to use the IceBox; it is provided ONLY for those who do not have the actual IceBox (yet) and need help understanding the descriptions on these pages.

Select your site, and stomp down the snow to pack it.
Assemble the IceBox
Plant the stake in the center of your igloo site.
Align the "square to" lines so that your IceBox is angled correctly.    This angle must be maintained for the first row.  Other rows sort of "fall in place" as you go.
For the first "course" (row) you must build a ramp 3 "blocks" long.   This ramp must start from the ground level to 1/3 the height of the IceBox for the first block; then for the 2nd block, 2/3 full; then finally "full" for the 3rd block.
THE FIRST ROW IS CRITICAL! As I learned on Trial #3; if that's not right; nothing is!  Keep your "forced" angle in tact; otherwise it won't work right.
Never fill the IceBox completely "full" -- it doesn't seem to work right.
Pack in the snow as you go; patting it in rather than really "packing" it in.
To move the IceBox; Lift ubar, untoggle the bar; REMOVE IceBox; replace ubar; retoggle; and put IceBox in next position.
Always overlap the IceBox a few inches over the last block.
once you complete your first course (row, and circle); and you hit the "2nd" block in your ramp; move the lower bar to the next position; these positions are numbered; but are not in order.

(here you see in it in position #3, it's ordered 2 3 1 4 5)
You continue this procedure to level 5, once on 5, remove the outer form and allow the shoveler to pack snow for the lower 1/2 and then the form handler for the upper 1/2.

From here on out; you're on your own; as I haven't gotten that far; and the manual sort of lets you go for doing the dome.

For doing the "door" you really don't want to muck with the igloo or the forms you've done; you want to dig DOWN underneath it to make your entrance.  We had some discussion about the best place to put your entrance way; but I think at a right angle to the wind is best.
Use a tarp to cover your shelter if you think it might rain.
Use a tarp to cover up your entrance way to keep wind from coming in too much.
Heat your shelter initially; I was told to use my stove (MSR XGKII) for 2 hours to heat it up; this helps it "set" and become solid.

That's about all there is to it. Seems really simple; doesn't it?
