Suggested things to check first (from various sources)
- Overflow cap
- Aux water pump (aka: heater water pump) has slight crack; dust with
white powder to help locate a leak.
- Enlarge/drill the hole feeding the overflow tank from the radiator.
(Will
try this weekend)
- Rough idle is unrelated & probably a bad
injector
Get a test kit to test for exhaust in the coolant, this is a
chemical test; sometimes you cannot smell the fuel. (Dan M. says
they're junk, better to use the exhaust gas analyzer over the tank. I
trust Dan.)
- Do
a compression check before pulling the head to see if there's any signs of
issues with valves/rings.
- Dan
P. says I have all the signs of a weeping headgasket and to stop messing
around. (OK; he didn't really say that; but his point is to just get in
there and fix it 'right')
