On our recent trip to San Diego; we (mom, dad, & myself) went to get
certified (Kris didn't want to do anything
"underwater" -- but now she has the bug). Lesson
Learned: If you're on Beta Blockers for high blood pressure; DON'T;
that is; unless you've had a stress test. (mom didn't do too well; an dad bailed
because mom did)
The end of that story is that I did it alone (sounds snooty;
doesn't it? "Private lessons for Josh").

San Diego was the BEST!
He was patient, a great instructor and an overall
nice guy to hang out with. If you go there; tell him I said "Hey
Rod!" (click the pic to go to his page)
Check out pictures
"Pool Work" and "La
Jolla"!
Exciting points from
the trip:
 | Saw the rare endangered Giant Black Sea Bass! It was SO Cool! (Check
out "president" link on Rod's page -- that sums it up well) |
 | Learned underwater navigation (I led a dive!) which included finding my
way back underwater with visibility ranging from about 20 to 5 feet... |
 | Did dives to 60' at the La Jolla canyon -- I now understand why so much
emphasis was placed on "buoyancy" -- the canyon was a mile deep --
If you can't control buoyancy -- you die. |
 | Did dives in 45' in a kelp forest! Man! That was GREAT -- warm water
-- not like free diving in Shelter Cove's kelp.. c-c-c-cold there! La
Jolla was warm (considering the time of year) -- SO much wild life down
there. |
 | Visibility varied from 5' to 50' on the dives. |
 | It was a total blast to dive in La Jolla! Sea lion hung out while we
entered the water; schools of fish, lobsters, star fish, urchins, & some
anemones. Very diverse area. HIGHLY recommended. (Rod
does guided trips as well as certification) |
